The airline says that reaching the 500 million passenger mark is far more than a symbolic milestone. It represents 500 million travel decisions made by customers who repeatedly choose Wizz Air for its affordable fares, extensive network, and overall travel experience.
To date, the airline has carried more people than the entire population of the European Union, a fact that underscores Wizz Air’s impact on the accessibility of air travel, the company notes.
“Reaching 500 million passengers is an extraordinary milestone that clearly reflects how we have transformed the way people travel,” said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air. “This achievement is the culmination of 22 years of sustained growth and disciplined execution, and it proves the trust that hundreds of millions of customers have placed in Wizz Air by choosing us again and again. We have grown ahead of the market average, expanded our network, strengthened our bases, achieved record traffic levels, and made significant investments.”
“While many airlines founded in the early 2000s have since disappeared, Wizz Air has become one of Europe’s leading low-cost carriers. This performance gives us tremendous momentum to continue expanding our network and, together with our passengers, shape the future of aviation,” he added.
The airline carried its first 100 million passengers in 11 years, then doubled that figure in just four years, and expanded from 200 million to 300 million passengers in only three years, including the period of the COVID pandemic. After that, over the past three years alone, it carried an additional 200 million passengers, reaching 500 million in just 22 years since its launch.
