The airline’s summer capacity will exceed last year’s level by 30%, supported by the addition of two new aircraft to its Budapest base. Alongside popular southern holiday destinations, an increasing number of northern cities will also become accessible.
Wizz Air will launch the summer season with 15 new routes, 19 aircraft and nearly 3 million seats, representing roughly a 30% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. The expansion further strengthens the airline’s leading position in Budapest, where its market share will exceed 40%.
Among the new destinations, Ankara will be added to the Budapest schedule for the first time with regular service. Flights to the Turkish capital and the nearby Anatolia region will be available three times a week starting April 29.
Another notable addition is Kraków, Poland’s former capital and second-largest city. Flights between John Paul II International Airport Kraków–Balice and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport will begin on April 29, operating four times per week year-round.
A new connection to Sofia will launch on July 3, initially operating four times weekly during the summer and increasing to daily service in the winter schedule.
Responding to growing demand for cooler destinations amid increasingly hot summers, Wizz Air will introduce flights to Bergen from March 30, operating three times a week. Billund — known as the home of LEGO — will join the network from April 2, while Tallinn will also be served three times weekly.
The Balkans continue to grow in popularity among travelers seeking hiking, city breaks or seaside holidays. After a short hiatus, Wizz Air will resume flights from Budapest to Skopje from March 30, operating three times a week.
Travelers seeking seaside vacations will also benefit from expanded options. Flights to Varna will operate four times weekly and to Lamezia Terme three times weekly, with services launching on June 8 and April 30, respectively.
Peak-season routes will focus on Mediterranean and Adriatic resorts starting in the second week of June. Zadar will be available from June 9, while Dubrovnik — one of Croatia’s most visited destinations — will be served from June 8. Menorca in Spain and Rimini in Italy will also be added to the summer schedule.
Two new Greek regions will be accessible: Kefalonia from June 9 and Kalamata from June 8. With these additions, Wizz Air will offer nine direct destinations in Greece from Budapest, including Athens, Heraklion, Corfu, Rhodes, Santorini, Thessaloniki and Zakynthos.
András Szabó, network director of Wizz Air, said: “We are offering more than 9.5 million seats from Budapest this year, of which nearly 3 million are for the summer months alone. During the airline’s 22-year history, we are entering the summer with unprecedented capacity, which allows us to confidently surpass our competitors and, with a market share exceeding 40%, offer the widest selection from Budapest. Our passengers can choose from more than 80 destinations, whether they are looking for Mediterranean summer beaches or pleasantly cool northern cities. To secure the best fares, it is worth booking this year’s holiday as early as possible.”
Máté Ritter, route development director at Budapest Airport, added: “We consider it a major success that Wizz Air continues to expand its Budapest offering with the announced 15 new routes and maintains its strong confidence in the local market. Since the summer of 2024, Wizz Air has strengthened its Budapest base with a total of five modern A321neo aircraft, while also placing strong emphasis on efficient operations and dynamic growth outside peak periods, thereby making careful use of the existing airport infrastructure. We are confident that the newly launched routes this year will be successful and that both current and new passengers will find destinations that suit their needs.”
In addition to launching new routes, Wizz Air is increasing flight frequencies on nearly all existing services, offering more seats and greater flexibility for travelers.
The airline will operate more flights than ever to Spain, where it now serves 10 destinations: Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaga, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and Valencia. Italy will also feature 10 destinations in the summer schedule, including Alghero, Bari, Catania, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Milan, Naples, Rimini, Rome and Turin.
