The tightening of regulations and the closures implemented by some European countries in December and January further reduced passenger traffic in Europe, the airport's operator notes. A total of 23 destinations are available from Budapest in February 2021, according to bud.hu.

In contrast, cargo traffic, which already broke records at the end of 2020, continues to increase at Budapest Airport. The volume of goods handled in January reached 12,516 tons. Thus, BUD Cargo City, which opened just over a year ago, remains on the right track to become the primary cargo gateway for Central and Eastern Europe, and continues to provide strong support for the national economy, the press release says.

Preparations for the second phase of the air cargo handling complex will commence already this year, and the company is continuing to work hard to strengthen the regional significance of Budapest Airport: BUD cargo team is continuously working on creating a Silk Road between Hungary and China.
