Aeroexpress managing director Daniel Somogyi-Toth said the carrier aims to fill a gap by offering regional service. He noted that stakeholders in the venture include Hungarian-owned BASe Airlines, which has three 30-seat Embraer 120 turboprop aircraft, and two private Hungarian individuals.
Aeroexpress is offering flights between Debrecen and the Romanian cities of Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures, as well as between Budapest and Cluj-Napoca.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade state secretary Levente Magyar said the flights dovetail with the government's efforts to make it easier to maintain ties between Hungary and Transylvania.
