Sales in Hungary of Swedish home furnishings giant Ikea rose 11% to HUF 145 billion in its business year ended August 31, Ikea Magyarország said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Online sales accounted for 23% of turnover, level with the base period.

The average purchase per customer stood at HUF 28,605 for visits to stores and at HUF 80,705 for online purchases.

Around 8.1 million shoppers visited Ikea stores in Hungary during the period, 100,000 more than a year earlier.

Ikea Magyarország raised the wages of its staff of around 1,700 by 9.5% in January.

Fielding questions, Karina Hartai, who heads one of the three Ikea stores in the capital, said Ikea did not expect the Red Sea conflict to raise costs or prolong delivery times.

Ikea is spending about HUF 19.2 bln to expand its biggest store, in the south of the capital, project manager Gergely Krisztián Petheő said. The store will continue to operate as usual during the expansion which started in November and is set to finish in 2025, he added.
