Black Friday Sales Brisk in 1st Hour

Retailer eMag kicked off its Black Friday sales at 7:10 a.m. today (Friday, Nov. 17), during the first hour of which the average shopper spent 7% more than last year, typically browsing offers on their smartphone and requesting an easybox pick-up. The first-hour figures show a significant increase in sales of everyday consumer goods ordered this year, but demand for clothing and home furnishings has also risen.

The sale was launched with 1.5 million products on offer, 1.2 million of which were said to be available at this year's best prices. Emag will be delivering Black Friday orders from its 117,000 square meter Hungarian logistics center, which opened earlier this year and includes a number of automation solutions, by Dec. 1 at the latest.


Based on first-hour figures, the average basket value of Black Friday is 7% higher than last year, with everyday consumer goods (washing and cleaning products, durable food, and drinks) generating as many sales in the first hour as in the first half of Black Friday 2022.

Clothing and fashion items at eMag saw a significant increase of more than 200% in value at the start of Black Friday, with customers ordering around twice as many home furnishings and home accessories as this time last year, and beauty sales in the first hour were one and a half times higher than in 2022.


As was the case last year, traditional toys (such as Lego and board games), but also game consoles and accessories are popular this year, with many people saying they are likely to buy children's Christmas gifts in the Black Friday sale.
