The number of mergers and acquisitions closed in Hungary last year reached 31, close to the number in 2019, but their value jumped on a tie-up to create Magyar Bankholding, which is set to become Hungary's second-biggest commercial lender, consultancy Mazars said, according to gazdasagportal.hu.

The value of M&As in Hungary rose to EUR 3 billion last year from EUR 378 million in 2019.

The merger of Budapest Bank, Takarékbank and MKB Bank into Magyar Bankholding accounts for about EUR 2 bln of that, Mazars said. It added that the Magyar Bankholding merger was the fourth-biggest one disclosed in the region.
