Uber has published its Lost & Found Index for the 10th time this year, summarizing the items passengers most frequently leave in cars and reminding users that retrieving lost belongings may be simpler than many think.
According to Hungarian data, phones and cameras top the list of the most commonly forgotten items, followed by bags, backpacks and packages, as well as wallets. Glasses, clothing, headphones, keys, passports, vapes and e-cigarettes, jewelry and cosmetics also rank high on the list.
The statistics show that passengers in Hungary are most likely to forget their belongings around midnight on Sundays. Uber said the likelihood of leaving something on the back seat increases after weekend programs, concerts, parties and late-night journeys home.
“All of us have experienced realizing only minutes after getting out of the car that our phone, wallet or glasses have been left behind. In the Uber app, passengers can contact the driver in a few simple steps, so retrieving lost items can be quick and convenient,” said Eszter Kardos, head of Uber in Hungary.
Strange Items Left Behind
Uber’s Lost & Found Index also shows each year that passengers do not only leave everyday items behind.
This year’s global list of unusual lost items included a mini refrigerator, a dishwasher, a 75-gallon aquarium, two live trees, a wedding dress, a magic wand and a bag of marbles.
Over the past 10 years, even stranger items have turned up in Uber cars, including a lobster, a salmon head, half a kilogram of caviar, divorce papers, a taxidermied rabbit and a painting of Kate Middleton, all of which were eventually returned to their owners.
The company said the index shows that while technology, trends and transport habits continue to change, one thing remains constant: passengers still sometimes forget something on the back seat.
How to Retrieve a Lost Item
If a personal item is left in an Uber car, passengers can contact the driver through the app.
Users should open the Uber app, select “Activity” in the bottom menu and find the trip during which the item was lost. They should then scroll to the “Help” section, select “Find lost item” and then choose “Contact driver about a lost item.”
Passengers can enter their phone number and call the driver. If the driver has found the item, the two sides can agree on a suitable time and place for handover.
If the driver does not answer, Uber advises passengers to leave a detailed voice message describing the lost item and providing contact details. Those who left their registered phone in the car can also request assistance by logging in at help.uber.com.
