In a statement released by his ministry, Szijjártó said the new agreement aimed to support more and more decisions by the German car maker to bring investments to Győr and achieve success in the new era of electromobility.

The sides also agreed that Audi would strengthen its presence in Győr in new segments, in addition to production, such as in services and R+D, and that it would form a closer cooperation with local institutions of higher education and vocational training, he added.

Audi Hungaria marked the production of the 1 millionth Q3 model at its plant in Győr on Friday.

Szijjártó said Hungary wanted to be at the “forefront” of the global automotive industry’s technological transition and would soon be able to turn out 1 million cars and 2 million engines a year, while boasting the second-largest battery manufacturing capacity in the world.

He acknowledged Audi’s contribution to putting the country in the “Champions League” of the global automotive industry, noting the company had ploughed HUF 5,200bn into Gyor over three decades. Audi employs over 12,000 people in Gyor to produce 2 million engines and 200,000 cars a year.
