The company has come a long way in its three-decade history: in 1992, only some 970 cars were produced in five months; today, 650 cars are produced in one day at the Esztergom plant.
Esztergom is currently Suzuki Motor Corporation's third-largest and only European production base. Since the establishment of Magyar Suzuki Zrt., Suzuki Motor Corporation has invested more than EUR 2 billion in Hungary, continuously developing its European plant.
From the very beginning, the plant has been involved in a full range of manufacturing activities, covering all processes of car production. Steel sheet pressing, welding, vehicle assembly, painting, and inspection of finished cars are all carried out here. For almost 20 years, from the start of production in the summer of 1992, Suzuki models have been built exclusively with Japanese presence and supervision.
However, since the Vitara went into production in 2015, the role of Hungarian engineers has become increasingly important, with their active involvement in the development of the prototype and production technology. Since then, feedback from Hungarian experts has also been taken into account at the Japanese center when designing a new model.
