IEA offered free rent in Budapest
The International Energy Agency (IEA) might relocate its headquarters from Paris to Budapest in 2017, Hungarian business daily Világgazdaság reported today.
The government has authorized Hungarian Economy Minister Mihály Varga to offer the agency the use of a Budapest property free of charge, under a government resolution published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny.
Should the agency accept the offer, Varga would be responsible for the refurbishing and maintenance of the property, along with covering the costs of the agency's relocation process.
Greg Frost, IEA's director for public relations, confirmed to Világgazdaság that the current lease of the headquarters in Paris would expire in 2017. The 29 member countries of the organization are assessing various options for the period to follow and the board will make a decision in 2015, he added.
