Hungarian wins European Innovator of the Year Award
Hungarian inventor Krisztián Imre has been presented the European Innovator of the Year Award at the European Leadership Awards for his Extended Visual Assistant (EVA), voice-controlled eyewear for the visually impaired, K&H Bank, which supports his Budapest-based startup, told state news wire MTI.
Extended Visual Assistant recognizes objects, texts and signs and verbally describes what it sees. Imreʼs startup, EVA Vision, operates in K&Hʼs incubator in Budapest, launched in January, which provides professional services to 13 startups at present, noted MTI.
EVA Visionʼs work is also supported by a partnership with the Bay Zoltán Research Institute. According to Imreʼs nomination citation, the founder and CEO was driven by a "deeply held belief that it is time blind people were given a better way to get around than GPS." It is claimed that EVA can significantly improve everyday activities such as walking, reading, recognizing objects and socializing for partially sighted people.
The European Leadership Awards were established by the Euronews global news and media network and the European Business Summit to recognize outstanding achievements in business, politics, entrepreneurship and innovation. The finalists of the awards were selected through a public vote followed by a final jury verdict. The awards were presented at a gala ceremony in Brussels on May 23.
