Easter sweets sales expected to increase 3-5%

Sándor Sánta, head of Hungarian Sweets Makers Association, expects sales of Easter sweets to jump 3-5% this year, exceeding last year’s HUF 4 bln, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

Sánta, who is also the head of sweets manufacturer Bonbonetti, believes that efforts to inform consumers about "real chocolate" with a high cocoa content have paid off. The head added that the “quality seasonal figurines” currently account for more than 90% of sales, almost doubling the amount recorded in 2006.

Market research company Nielsen said earlier that sales of Easter-themed sweets jumped by 12% to HUF 4 bln, which represented a 6% increase in volume, up to 940 tons in Hungary.
