Developers to invest in new skiing facilities
A new ski slope will start operating at Eplény, a little more than a hundred kilometers west of Budapest. Developer Síaréna plans to invest more than HUF 500 million in the project, national news agency MTI reports. Government grants will support this and an upgrade at another facility in Mátraszentistván.
Síaréna Managing Director Bálint Ebele told MTI that the firm will build a 1-kilometer illuminated slope, with a chairlift, for beginners and intermediate-level skiers. The chairlift will operate in summer, too, when visitors can ride down a cycle path parallel to the ski slope, Ebele added. Síaréna will expand the total length of all of its runs to 7.5 km.
Hungaryʼs government is supporting the investment with a HUF 150 mln grant, said Máriusz Révész, government commissioner for promoting active recreation. Síaréna has already invested more than HUF 2 billion at the slope in Eplény, he noted.
The government is also awarding a HUF 150 mln grant for developments at a ski slope in Mátraszentistván, in the Mátra Hills of northeast Hungary. The operator of the ski slope there has invested HUF 1.2 bln in the operation.
