Csepel Freeport modernized through HUF 3.5 bln investment

Hungarian state-owned Csepel Freeport has been upgraded as part of a joint port development program with MAHART-Szabadkikötő and Budapesti Szabadkikötő Logisztikai (BLSZ), Hungarian news agency MTI reported yesterday.
The development, which involves intermodal transport refurbishments, capacity expansion and construction of new warehouses, cost more than HUF 3.5 bln and was supported with a European Union grant of HUF 2 mln, according to MTI.
Through an investment of more than HUF 15 bln in developments in recent years by logistics company BSZL, which operates in an area of more than 150 hectares, the firm now has a warehouse area of more than 80,000 sqms, being used at 100% capacity, MTI reported. The port has a Ro-Ro road-water combined transport terminal with 20 berths.
According to the news agency, BSZL foresees revenue of HUF 2.2 bln this year, up 15% from 2014, while the developments and expanded services are expected to create at least 400 new jobs at the port by 2020.
Ekol Logistics, a Turkish-owned haulage and forwarding company opened its new 4,000 sqm warehouse building during the projects opening ceremony, completed for HUF 1 bln, MTI reported. The company has also signed a long-term agreement with BSZL that states the company will double the 5,000 sqm area it is currently leasing within one year, MTI added.
