The number of guest nights in Siófok reached 1.3 million last year, more than any other destination around Lake Balaton, the city said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Hévíz, home to Europe's largest thermal lake, was runner-up, with 1 million guest nights, followed by Balatonfured, on the northern shore, with 874,000 guest nights.

Domestic travelers accounted for 70% of the guest nights in Siofok. Germans, Czechs, Slovaks and Poles made up the largest numbers of foreign visitors to the city.

Data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show guest nights in the Balaton region came to 8.8m last year.
