Room Rates Climb 17% in 2023

Tourism

The average room rate at tourism accommodations in Hungary rose 17% to HUF 13,000 per person last year, data compiled by bookings site Szallas.hu show.

Budapest was the top tourism destination, Szallas.hu said, followed by Siófok, on Lake Balaton, and Eger, in the northeast of the country. Pécs, in the southwest, Szeged, in the southeast, and the spa towns of Gyula and Hajdúszoboszló, were next on the list of most popular destinations. Hévíz, home to Europe's largest thermal lake; Debrecen, Hungary's second-largest city; and Balatonfüred, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, were also among the top 10 places to go.

Hotels accounted for close to one-third of Szallas.hu bookings last year. Apartments made up 28pc of the total, guesthouses 20%, and bed and breakfasts 15%.

Szallas.hu has 16,985 partners in the tourism accommodations business, up 7% from a year earlier.
