Number of Guest Nights up 5.1%

Guest nights at commercial and private tourism accommodation in Hungary rose 5.1% to 3.107 million in October from the same period a year earlier, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) this week.

The number of guest nights spent by domestic travelers edged up 1.2% to 1.515 million, and guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 9.1% to 1.592 million.

Germans spent 185,000 guest nights at tourism accommodations in Hungary in October, more than any other nationality. Visitors from the United Kingdom spent 113,000 guest nights, and Czech visitors some 109,000.

The number of guest nights spent by visitors from Asia reached 208,000, climbing 27.9% from the base period. The capital was the most popular destination in October, accounting for 1,256,000 guest nights.

Lake Balaton was runner-up, with 393,000 guest nights.
