Thanks to the large-scale developments, Hungarian tourism has been renewed, and the most critical task in the future is to increase the number of guest nights, László Könnyid, the CEO of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ), said in an interview with turizmus.com.

Könnyid emphasized that the domestic tourism results are only a hair behind the data of 2019, the record year before the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

The year 2023 was about the gradual recovery of arrivals, which was especially spectacular in the capital, where the turnover of foreigners in accommodation increased by nearly 20%.

All this was achieved despite the fact that the terrorist attack in Israel in October reduced incoming traffic from that country to almost zero. This particularly affected Budapest, as Israel is a significant source of tourists, Könnyid explained.
