Nearly 1.1 million guests spent a total of 2.4 million tourism nights at accommodation establishments during the month. Tourist arrivals rose 4.6% compared to February 2025, while the number of nights spent increased by 5.2%.
Seasonally adjusted figures show a somewhat more moderate expansion, with arrivals up 3.8% and tourism nights rising 4.3% year on year.
Commercial accommodation accounted for the majority of activity, hosting 75% of all guests. The number of arrivals at these establishments climbed 6.5%, while private and other accommodation types saw a slight decline of 0.8%.
Domestic tourism continued to perform strongly. The number of Hungarian guests increased 4.9% year on year to 509,000, while domestic tourism nights rose 6.6% to nearly 1.1 million. Hotels remained the dominant segment, accounting for 86% of domestic arrivals within commercial accommodation, with guest numbers there up 6.9%.
Regionally, domestic tourism growth was uneven. The Győr–Pannonhalma region recorded the strongest increase, with arrivals up 27%, while the Sopron area saw a 13% decline. Domestic arrivals rose 16% in Budapest and 3.6% at Lake Balaton.
International tourism also expanded, though at a slightly slower pace. Foreign arrivals and tourism nights both increased by 4.2% year on year. A total of 559,000 international visitors spent nearly 1.4 million nights in Hungary.
Hotels again dominated, accounting for 87% of international arrivals within commercial accommodation, where guest numbers rose 5.4%. Private and other accommodation saw a 1.4% decline in foreign arrivals.
Among regions, international arrivals grew the most in the greater Budapest area, up 15%, while the Tokaj–Nyíregyháza region recorded the largest drop, at 7.7%. Foreign visitor numbers increased 6.3% in Budapest and 4.2% at Lake Balaton.
In total, 18,035 accommodation establishments hosted guests in February, including 2,058 commercial units and 15,977 private or other facilities. Of the commercial units, 914 hotels and 846 boarding houses were open for part or all of the month.
Total gross revenue of accommodation establishments reached HUF 61.8 bln, up 3.3% at current prices compared to a year earlier. Spending via the Széchenyi Recreation Card totaled nearly HUF 2.2 bln, an increase of 6.7%.
For the first two months of 2026, the sector recorded 2.1 million arrivals, up 4.9% year on year. Domestic arrivals rose 4.7% to 1.0 million, while international arrivals increased 5.1% to 1.1 million.
