Tourism

The number of guest nights at campsites and hostels is on the rise, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Guest nights at campsites in Hungary exceeded 1.9 million last year, up from 1.1 million in 2020. Foreign tourists accounted for 52% of turnover at campsites, and over half of those foreign visitors were Germans and Poles.

Visitors spent on average three nights at campsites.

Over 270 campsites operated in Hungary last year, most of them around Lake Balaton and in spa towns.

The number of guest nights at hostels reached 2.7 million last year. That number included 1.2 million in the capital.

Tourists under the age of 35 accounted for more than 70% of guests at hostels and 30% were younger than 18.
