Foreign Visitors' Spending in Hungary Reaches HUF 700 bln in Q2

Spending by foreign visitors to Hungary rose 26% year-on-year to HUF 700 billion in the second quarter, news agency MTI reports, citing data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Around half of that spending was related to recreation, entertainment, and wellness activities, KSH said.

Spending by day-trippers climbed 32% to HUF 174 bln. Spending by foreign visitors who stayed longer periods in Hungary increased 24% to HUF 526 bln.

German visitors spent the most: HUF 109 bln, up 37% from the same period a year earlier. Austrian visitors spent HUF 92 bln, up 5% from the base period.

Spending by visitors from Asia climbed 40% to HUF 66 bln as the number of visitors from the region rose 37% to 290,000.

Hungarian travelers spent HUF 338 bln during trips abroad in Q2, 38% more than in the same period a year earlier.
