Domestic Weekend Holiday Bookings Increase

“From July, when the weather turned more favorable, last minute domestic bookings picked up, typically for weekends, although the number of longer vacations did not increase as much as last year,” shares Lili Kelemen, press spokesperson of Szallas.hu.

Data from Szallas.hu shows that August is the least popular summer month in terms of domestic hotel bookings compared to last year, as there are 7% fewer domestic hotel bookings with summer travel dates than in 2022.

Szallas.hu shares that booking for early fall dates have already started, but there are currently 12% fewer bookings for this period compared to the previous year.

The average prices at Lake Balaton and Lake Velence are similar, an average of HUF 12,600 and HUF 12,570, respectively, and Lake Tisza is still the least expensive option, an average of HUF 9,400 per person per night.

Balaton is still the most popular destination, with a third of Szallas.hu's summer bookings in the region, while only 1.2% of bookings are for Lake Velence, and 3.1% for Lake Tisza.

The popularity of booking apartments on Lake Balaton has increased. Last year it accounted for 38% of summer bookings, while this year it reached 40%. Hotels in the region were chosen for every fourth reservation in both years.

“It is interesting, for example, that at Lake Balaton, we see an increase in the number of bookings in the 4-star and non-star hotel categories, while we experience a decrease in the other categories,” explains Kelemen.

In addition, Zsolt Szabó, head of the Szallas.hu programs and attractions department, shares that Festetics Castle, Szigliget Castle, and Plázs - Siófok are among the most attractive attractions at Lake Balaton.

At Lake Tisza, many people visit the Lake Tisza Eco Center, the Free Beach in Tiszafüred and the Tisza Beach in Abádszalók. At Lake Velence, many people visit the Velence Spa Thermal and Adventure Bath, the Pákozd Military Memorial Park, and the Velence Free Beach.
