The municipal council of Budapest backed a HUF 4.6 billion renovation of the Rác baths, one of the capital's historic Turkish baths, at a meeting on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The motion supporting the renovation plan to be funded by the local council's spa operator, BGYH, was supported by a vote of 17 for, 4 against, and 10 abstentions.
BGYH acquired the Rac baths in a liquidation procedure in 2021 for HUF 5 bln, paying the reserve price.
The baths had been renovated in 2010 by a project company but never reopened because of an ownership dispute.
