Hungarian health workers flock to abroad

The number of young doctors and health workers going abroad to kept rising in the first half of 2014, Hungarian business daily Világgazdaság reported yesterday.

A total of 514 doctors and dentists, and another 257 nurses and midwives applied for certificates needed for foreign employment in H1 this year. In 2013 a total of 1,218 doctors and dentists and 555 nurses sought for foreign employment.

The past seven and half years has seen the emigration of more than 8,000 doctors and dentists and over 2,500 nurses and midwives. The most preferred destination for the leaving employment has been Germany, Great Britain and Austria. Earlier reports stated that the main reason for their leaving are higher wages.
