Lidl Sells Over 200 mln Bottles of Hungarian Wine

Lidl Magyarország has sold more than 200 million bottles of Hungarian wine since launching a promotional campaign ten years ago, the German-owned discount chain told state news wire MTI on Wednesday.

Half of those bottles were sold in Lidl shops abroad.

Last year, Lidl sold around 29 million bottles of Hungarian wine at shops in 17 countries.

Sales of wine in Lidl shops have generated revenue of over HUF 90 bln for Hungarian suppliers.

Among the most popular varieties of Hungarian wine Lidl sells are Szürkebarát, Kiralyleányka, Egri Bikaver, Tokaji Furmint, and Irsai Olivér.
