This year, athletes will take over runway I of Budapest Airport on the first Saturday of September again. Following last year’s success, the now-traditional 11th Runway Run will once again start at sunset, and the organizer, Budapest Airport is opening up the registration to an audience wider than ever before.

Budapest Airport’s charity race, Runway Run, will take place on September 2. As in the previous 10 years, Budapest Airport’s charity run will serve a noble purpose this year as well, since the entire proceeds raised from the entry fees will be donated to the Suhanj! Foundation, which supports sporting opportunities for handicapped and disabled people, and another foundation helping the recovery of sick children. Donations since the first rendition of the race in 2013 have exceeded HUF 90 million.

Held in a special location on the closed Runway I of Budapest Airport, the competition is traditionally one of the most popular sporting events for aviation professionals, where the athletes of Suhanj! Foundation and a limited number of civilian sportspeople can also enter. The latter option is open to everyone interested this year on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a call for entries posted on Budapest Airport’s online interfaces, where 100 registration opportunities will be available.

The organizers are also launching a category called Kids’ Fun Run, in addition to the traditional distances for adults and children. In this category, children aged 14 or under can compete on their own or accompanied by their parents. This year, children can compete in three age groups at a distance of one or two kilometers for the very first time.

The following categories will be available for participants at the Runway Run this year:
Adult:
Women’s or men’s 5 km
Women’s or men’s 10 km
Children:
Aged between 6 and 8: 1 km
Aged between 9 and 11: 2 km
Aged between 12 and 14: 2 km
Kids’ Fun Run:
Parents and children aged 14 or under: 1 km

To help participants prepare, Budapest Airport will draw up a six-week training plan, which will be sent to entrants after registration.
