Weather service HungaroMet said the capital’s record for the highest daily minimum temperature was broken at János Hill, where the temperature fell no lower than 25.8 degrees Celsius.
The previous record for Aug. 2 was 24.3 C, measured in Zugliget in 2017.
A new daily maximum temperature record was also set in Lágymányos, where the temperature reached 39.4 C during the afternoon.
The previous Budapest record for the date was 38.9 C, registered at the Budatétény weather station in 1949.
Karácsony said on Monday that there was currently no water shortage in the capital and no restrictions were in place.
Responding to a question at a press event, Karácsony said Budapest Waterworks was able to supply all consumers, but residents were nevertheless being asked to reduce water use.
Karácsony added that municipal park management company Főkert would issue detailed guidelines on watering plants.
