EY expert says M&A grew 12% last year

Analysis

Hungary has seen a positive trend in mergers and acquisitions since 2011, and M&A grew 12% in volume last year, making this the fifth most active of 11 countries in the region in 2014, Margaret Dezse of EY said today.

Speaking at an EY presentation on M&A in Budapest this morning, Dezse (pictured) said that the 102 deals made in Hungary in 2014 represented a 12% increase in the number of deals made the previous year. She added that the value of those deals grew from $1.27 billion to $1.49 billion, an increase of 18% in a year.

According to Dezse, domestic transactions were the most important, accounting for 61% of the M&A activity in 2014, as compared to 59% in 2013. When it came to foreign investors, most of the partners came from the United States, Germany and the U.K., she said.

As for sectors, Dezse said IT was the dominant area for M&A activity, accounting for 33% of the deals in Hungary last year.
