The GVH imposed the fine Monday over advertisements claiming Aldi offered “the widest selection” and “the best sales,” saying the retailer had failed to substantiate those claims with facts.

Aldi said Tuesday that the advertisements had informed consumers of its first-place awards in the “Best Sales” and “Widest Selection” categories of women’s magazine Nők Lapja’s 2024 Food Awards.

The retailer added that it had planned the campaign taking into account earlier GVH decisions on similar advertising and had sought to ensure consumers could read the “full message and the supplemental information.”
