The increases affected newer remakes, while prices for older installments remained unchanged.

The physical PlayStation 5 edition of Resident Evil 2 increased from HUF 6,990 to HUF 8,890, a rise of 27%. Resident Evil 3 became 13% more expensive, while Resident Evil 4 prices climbed 10%-13%, depending on the platform.

The increases occurred on Sept. 16 and 17, immediately around the film’s premiere, and affected remakes released by Capcom in recent years. Prices for older titles, including Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil Revelations, did not change.

The timing is notable because the increases were concentrated among newer, more popular installments, although the coincidence alone does not establish that the film caused the price changes.

Meanwhile, PC activation keys for several titles in the series became 12%-27% cheaper during the same period. According to the analysis, those declines suggest a broader promotion across the franchise rather than a direct response to the film’s release.

As the BBJ reported earlier, outbound clicks from Árukereső to console retailers rose roughly sevenfold after the release of a Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay preview, while interest in the PlayStation 5 Pro increased nearly fourteenfold.
