The trend contrasted with a slight decline in the overall average asking price.
Cars priced below HUF 2.5 mln accounted for 34.6% of listings, down 3.4 percentage points from a year earlier. Vehicles advertised at HUF 2.5 mln-5 mln represented 29.3% of supply, while those priced at HUF 5 mln-10 mln accounted for 23.4%. Cars above HUF 10 mln made up 12.6%.
The average asking price across all listings was HUF 5.46 mln, down from HUF 5.56 mln in September 2025.
“The range of the cheapest cars is shrinking: there are fewer listings below HUF 2.5 mln, while sellers are asking more for older, fuel-efficient city cars than last year,” said Dániel Lőcsei, brand manager at Használtautó.hu.
Suzuki Swift Records Biggest Increase
Among the 10 most frequently advertised models, the Suzuki Swift recorded the largest annual price increase, at 25.8%. With an average age of nearly 16.5 years, it was also the oldest model in that group. The Ford Fiesta had the lowest average asking price, at HUF 1.91 mln, while the Audi A6 was the most expensive, at HUF 6.48 mln.
Hatchbacks, the least expensive body type, rose 2.1% in price to an average of HUF 2.69 mln. Their average age barely changed, increasing from 14.6 to 14.7 years.
Hybrid Prices Fall 13.3%
Electric vehicles had the highest average asking price in September, at HUF 11.45 mln. Hybrids averaged HUF 10.45 mln, down 13.3% year-on-year.
According to KSH’s statistical model, each additional year of age was associated with a 6.9% reduction in gasoline car prices. The corresponding decline was 7.6% for diesel and electric vehicles and 5.5% for hybrids.
Compared with vehicles described as being in normal condition, well-maintained cars commanded a 10.9% premium. Damage-free vehicles were priced 16.7% higher, those in excellent condition 19.5% higher and nearly new vehicles 19.6% higher.
Damaged cars were, on average, 56.6% cheaper than those in normal condition, while vehicles with faults were 62.5% cheaper.
Ford Moves Ahead of BMW
Volkswagen remained the most frequently advertised brand, with 8,500-8,900 listings during the month. Ford, with 6,700-7,200 listings, overtook BMW by the end of September to take second place. BMW had 6,900-7,100 listings.
Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Audi, Škoda, Toyota, Kia and Renault completed the top 10.
Vehicles from those brands averaged 11.6 years old. Opels were the oldest, at 13.7 years, while Kias and Škodas were the youngest, averaging 9.1 and 9.7 years, respectively.
“Anyone looking for a car below HUF 2.5 mln now has a smaller selection than a year ago, so it is worth considering several brands and variants. In this price bracket, age and condition are the main determinants of price: a damaged car can cost less than half as much as one in normal condition, while there is barely any difference between excellent and nearly new condition,” Lőcsei added.
