In a statement Monday, the business association said the Games should be viewed as part of a broader development program, extending beyond investment in sports facilities.
Alongside potential benefits for national pride and tourism, hosting the Olympics could advance long-needed improvements to transport connections between Budapest and its suburbs, as well as the renewal of urban infrastructure, MGYOSZ said.
The association estimates that around 90% of the sports infrastructure required to host the Summer Games is already in place. Using partner venues in neighboring countries could further reduce the need to build new sports facilities, allowing preparations to focus on transport and other infrastructure improvements, it added.
Hungary is among seven countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics and are in dialogue with the International Olympic Committee. The others are Germany, India, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa and Turkey.
