“After Wednesday, another bus caught fire on Thursday, but fortunately, nobody was injured on either day. Our colleagues took action in a fast and professional manner,” Karácsony wrote.
He emphasized that it was unprecedented since 2022 for two bus fires to occur on back-to-back days, prompting him to demand an immediate report from BKV management and instruct them to take all necessary steps. Later on Thursday, a third incident occurred when a bus caught fire in Budapest’s District XII, according to the disaster management authority.
The fire had extinguished itself before firefighters arrived, who then cooled the engine and inspected the vehicle. In a statement issued yesterday, BKV announced a full and immediate inspection of its entire bus fleet with a focus on fire safety.
The company stressed that no injuries occurred in any of the incidents and reassured passengers that its vehicles remain safe. BKV described the fires as “unique and random” events, unrelated to technical or operational failures.
