The Airbus A321neo, originally scheduled to depart at 5:55 a.m., eventually took off at 6:11 a.m., as shown by Flightradar data. The flight was en route to Stockholm when lightning struck the plane, prompting the crew to divert to Warsaw.
Wizz Air’s press department confirmed the incident to Telex, emphasizing that neither the aircraft nor the passengers were in any danger.
“Modern aircraft are equipped with lightning protection, but in accordance with strict safety protocols, a full inspection is required after such an extraordinary event,” the company said in a statement.
“For this reason, the flight was diverted to Warsaw, where passengers are being transferred to another aircraft from Wizz Air’s local base to continue their journey to Stockholm.”
