Orbán said the sides had agreed to strengthen those economic ties further.
He noted that bilateral trade between Hungary and Germany had climbed over EUR 70 billion last year, a new record. Around one-fourth of Hungary's exports of goods go to Germany, he said.
He added that German-owned companies employed 250,000-300,000 people in Hungary, mainly in the automotive industry.
Hungary plays a "major role" in the functioning of Germany's industry, while "we hope for jobs, economic growth, and tax revenue", he said.
Orbán said the sides had discussed European Union matters as well as bilateral ones, adding that improving the demographic situation in Europe would be a priority of Hungary's presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of the year.
He said migration was also a topic that would be in the focus during the presidency.
Orbán said Hungary's conflict with Manfred Weber, the head of the European People's Party (EPP), as well as its differences with Brussels, did not weigh on the country's cooperation with Germany. The conflict between Hungary and Weber, whom Orbán called a "Hungarophobe who hates Hungarians", is not a conflict between Germany and Hungary, he added.
