Hungarian fruit and vegetable growers harvested a little less than 2m tonnes of produce last year, well under the 2.5-2.6 million average because of extreme weather conditions, Béla Martonffy, head of FruitVeB, said at a meeting of the professional association on Monday.

FruitVeb aims to boost annual output of Hungary’s fruit and vegetable sector by 800,000 to a million tonnes in the foreseeable future, Martonffy said. The increase would create tens of thousands of jobs, he added.
