Croatian anti-corruption office USKOK indicted Hernádi on March 31, 2014 on charges he bribed former prime minister Ivo Sanader of Croatia to give MOL management rights in Croatian peer INA. The court also upheld USKOK’s request that Hernádi be placed under detention and that court hearings take place in absentia.
Hernádi’s lawyer said that he will submit an appeal to the Zagreb County Court’s Tuesday decision. The Budapest Municipal Court on May 26 dropped a case against the MOL chairman-CEO concerning international bribery in a first-instance ruling.
The court also relieved Hernádi from charges of causing major financial damages. The plaintiff, a MOL shareholder and a former MOL employee, said she would appeal the ruling.
