The Constitutional Court will next week begin a review of the government’s private pension fund legislation, Constitutional Court Chairman Péter Paczolay said in an interview published on Friday on the internet portal site Origo.

Hungary’s Fidesz government last October passed legislation which, for all intents and purposes, compelled private pension account holders to put their private pension savings under state control or face losing their state pensions.

Paczolay also said the court has already held talks and discussed a preparatory document. He noted that a hearing had also been held, which happens relatively rarely.

Paczolay said “I am not revealing a secret if I say there is a draft, which we will start discussing next week”.

It has been published on the website of the Constitutional Court that the court will begin discussing the draft resolution on certain provisions of the acts on social security pension and private pension and the private pension funds at its meeting on July 11-12.

Next week’s meeting of the Constitutional Court will be the last before the court begins its summer recess.
