Law enforcement and emergency services have been working tirelessly to respond to the threats, which impacted 268 educational institutions across the country.

“Today we will not go to bed, and the police will not go to bed, until the police arrive at every Hungarian school that has received such a threat and search the building,” said Kristóf Gál, head of communications at the National Police Headquarters. “No explosives have been found in the buildings searched so far.”

He added that no explosive devices have been found in any of the inspected buildings so far.

Government Pledges Action

Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár described the bomb threats as an “unprecedented act of terror.” He emphasized that the government, police, and intelligence services are fully mobilized to address the situation. “Every school will be inspected,” Lázár stated, assuring the public that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is committed to protecting all Hungarian citizens.

“The person behind these threats will be brought to justice,” Lázár vowed.

Support for Disrupted Students

In response to the mass evacuations, the state-owned Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) announced additional train and bus services to assist students sent home from affected schools. The National Emergency Operations Center, established earlier this year for such extraordinary situations, reported no significant travel disruptions as of midday.

To ensure smooth transportation, MÁV has deployed customer service staff to major railway stations in Budapest and other key locations to assist students and parents with their travel needs. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers during the emergency.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities continue their investigation into the threats, which were delivered via email. Officials believe the messages originated from a single source, likely using a disposable email address flagged for suspicious activities. The police and intelligence agencies are working closely to trace the origin of the threats and bring those responsible to account.

While the situation remains tense, officials are urging calm as inspections and security measures continue.
