Orbán told Scholz that Germany is a partner of "key importance" for Hungary. "We remain committed to maintaining and developing our diverse cooperation," he said.

The PM acknowledged Hungary's historical ties with Germany, noting that "the change of system in Central Europe and the removal of the border dividing the German people laid the foundation for European reunification".

He invited Scholz to a summit of the heads of government of the Visegrád Group – Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia – in Budapest in 2022.
