After four years of the Hungarian government having to work with a US administration “on the complete opposite side of the political spectrum”, Hungary-U.S. ties can be a lot closer now under the new administration, Szabolcs Takács said at a reception hosted by the Hungarian embassy in honor of the delegation of European conservative politicians who attended Trump’s inauguration.
Takács said the respect Hungary had shown its U.S. partner under the Biden administration had not been reciprocated.
Meanwhile, he said the establishment of the Patriots for Europe party in the European Union offered a sound basis to “make Europe great again”.
The reception was also attended by the secretary of state of Indiana, representatives of American civil groups and think-tanks as well as the leaders of Hungary’s Center for Fundamental Rights.
