The head of the parliamentary group of governing Fidesz is seeking a vote on the ratification of Sweden's NATO accession when lawmakers convene at the start of the spring session on February 26, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Máté Kocsis posted a letter to House Speaker Laszlo Kover making the request on Facebook on Tuesday.

Fidesz MPs want to back the ratification, he added.

Last Saturday, in his State of the Nation speech, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said it was "good news" that Hungary's dispute with Sweden was "nearing a conclusion", adding that the Hungarian parliament could ratify Sweden's NATO accession at the start of the spring session.

"Together with the Swedish prime minister, we have taken important steps to rebuild trust," he noted.
