The unanimously voted document reads that the strengthening of democratic legitimacy of the decision-making process at EU level can be assured only by involving more parliaments. The declaration said that Romania and Bulgaria’s EU accession contributes to the consolidation and promotion of parliamentary democracy values. The presidents of the upper chambers of Parliaments in 15 European states met here Friday to discuss contributions that can made by Senates to ensuring a transparent governance.
The Association of European Senates was set up on June 6, 2001,and every year there are meetings hosted by every member state in turn. In 2008 the event will be held in Austria and an extraordinary session might take place in Moscow. (people.com.cn)
