According to the European Statistics Office (Eurostat), the unemployment rate in Slovakia was 10.8% in December 2007, representing a month-on-month decrease of 0.2% and a year-on-year decrease of 1.2%.
The unemployment rate for the EU as a whole was 6.8%, which means that on a month-on-month basis it decreased by 0.1% percent and year-on-year by 0.8%.
Slovakia, which had unemployment of more than 18% at the turn of the decade, was followed by Spain (8.6%) and Portugal (8.2%). The lowest unemployment rate was registered in the Netherlands (2.9%) and Denmark (3.1%). The biggest year-on-year decrease was posted in Poland (from 11.8% to 8.1%) and Bulgaria (from 8.2% to 5.6%), while the biggest year-on-year increase was experienced in Spain (from 8.2% to 8.6%).
