The Cabinet had decided on initiating the lawsuit on January 24, 2007, as Slovakia required the quotas to be 41.3 million tons for 2008-2012, while the EC allowed it only 30.9 million tons. Next, on February 7, the Slovak Justice Ministry filed a suit to the European Court.
In December 2007 the EC decided to increase the overall emission quotas for Slovakia by 5.5%, which represents the growth by 1.7 million per year.
In this connection also the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have filed a suit against the EC. (TASR)
