The European Commission on Wednesday said it opened two in-depth investigations into Hungaryʼs supermarket oversight fee and healthcare contribution payable by tobacco companies.
The EC said it would further examine whether the two recent Hungarian measures “with steeply progressive rate structures” are in line with EU rules on state aid; in the meantime it prohibited Hungary from applying the progressive rates until it concludes the assessment.
