EU Could Introduce Emission-based Vehicle Fees

In the long term, the European Union prefers the introduction of fees to be paid in proportion to the distance traveled and the vehicle's emissions, instead of time-based ones, according to the professional sources of business daily Világgazdaság.

This means that in the future, regulations more in line with the "polluter pays" principle may come into force.

This will appear not only in the case of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes but also in the e-sticker system used by passenger vehicles.

In addition, such a solution better reflects the actual costs of road use and provides a stronger incentive for cleaner and more efficient operation, the business publication adds.
