Ticket Tally Over 404,000 for 2023 Athletics Worlds in Budapest

A total of 404,088 tickets of an available 420,000 changed hands for the 2023 World Athletics Championships hosted in Budapest on August 19-27, the organizers said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Fans arrived in the capital from 120 countries. Around 40pc of spectators were foreigners and 60pc were Hungarians. The number of visitors from other countries in the region came to around 30,000. After Hungarians, the biggest group of nationals that got tickets were from the United Kingdom, followed by Germans and Americans. 

Fans got 267,331 tickets to the nine evening programs and 136,757 to the five morning programs.

Paying spectators in the stands accounted for 341,555 of the tickets and the rest went to invited guests. 

Close to 10,000 tickets were distributed free of charge to schools participating in an athletics program in the run-up to the contest. Around the same number of tickets went to disadvantaged groups.
