As of July 16, the market-leading home insurer had registered more than 14,000 claims, up from 5,700 just a week earlier. Total payouts are now expected to exceed HUF 1.5 billion.

The company, which had initially projected over 10,000 claims, now anticipates more than 16,000 as new reports continue to arrive. The largest concentration of damage was reported from central Pest County, especially in the Vecsés and Gyál areas, where more than 2,600 claims were filed and estimated losses already surpass HUF 1 bln.

Additional hotspots include Debrecen with nearly 1,000 claims totaling over HUF 200 million, along with several hundred reports from Szeged, Hódmezővásárhely, Hajdúszoboszló and Gyomaendrőd.

To manage the volume, Alfa Insurance activated a special response plan, reallocating experts from other areas and setting up a dedicated storm claims center. Over 60% of claims have already been processed, and clients are being updated regularly on the status of their cases. The insurer reports that around 50% of the claims have been settled through expedited procedures, ensuring swift assistance to affected policyholders.

Alfa also continues to issue damage prevention tips, reminding clients to secure windows and protect glass surfaces with shutters, unplug electronics or use surge protectors, and maintain rooftops and trees to reduce future risks.

Policyholders are advised to take multiple photos of damaged items and to only begin necessary repairs before the adjuster arrives. Damaged materials should be retained for inspection. Claims can be submitted via Alfa’s online customer portal or the AlfaGo mobile app, with status tracking available to follow the resolution process.
